CAMPUS _

Another project I've been working on was CAMPUS. This involved creating work to be used during The Manchester Modernist Society's 'artist not in residence' event at UMIST in Manchester. The intention of the event was to celebrate the history and the modernist architecture of the campus as it continues to be under threat from the council.

Working with Lisa Barlow, we created a fold out map that was given to every one who attended the event. We also designed plaques that were planted in front of a selection of the buildings to commemorate their modernist status. Finally, we created concrete UMIST badges that - had they been finished in time - would have been given to people to celebrate the day...

Other features of the day were the handing out of Modernist degrees to those involved in the society in some way and the tying up of 'Attention Modernist!' crime scene tape, both designed by Jonathan Hitchen.

More imagery can be found on my site here.

A huge thank you to Jack and Maureen (The Modernists) for offering us the chance to be involved in this and also to Sue Platt and Jonathan Hitchen for helping us with funding and printing of the maps!

The World of Tomorrow _

Over the past few weeks, I've been pretty busy with degree shows, moving house, graduating etc. I've also had the pleasure of working with Malcolm Garrett on the World of Tomorrow exhibition that's been running for the past 2 weeks in the Holden Gallery, Manchester. I worked alongside Jonathan Buschenfeld and we were tasked with designing the captions for the work as well as helping to design the vinyl.

The exhibition featured examples of Malcolm's collection of childhood memorabilia that he has generously donated to MMU's Special Collections library. There were countless James Bond novels and Gerry Anderson TV annuals, not to mention an enormous collection of New York World's Fair items and 10 original Marilyn's by Andy Warhol. Alongside this sat some of Malcolm's own work and the intention of the exhibit was for the audience to spot influences that Malcolm may or may not have sub-consciously picked up on as he grew up.

Package Google _

In mid February, I decided it would be a good idea to tackle a brief by YCN about creating physical packaging for Google's range of packaging. It was a terrible idea. The brief was so tough because it seemed completely useless to package a brand that works so well in the online world. However, never one to give up, I eventually decided to take a less serious approach. This was great because I got to dress Jonathan up like a right tool.

Like the Google products featured online, Google Boy is designed to provide a service. He does everything that Google do, but in a more personal way. As a vehicle for showing off Google Boy, I created a brochure with photographs and testimonials. However there is the added notion of telling people that no matter how great he is, Google Boy can't do it all himself and that we should do our bit to help him by using Google's products online instead.

Celebrity Matches _

I've been fairly busy working up to my final ever university deadline and I've had several projects that have all come together just at the end. Included in this list is Celebrity Matches.

This is a game created by my tutor Sue Platt and as soon as I heard about it, I decided that I'd love to make it a real thing. The aim of the game is to draw celebrities using matchsticks. It's like pictionary for alcoholics and pyromaniacs.

I had a lot of fun working with specialist printing techniques. The boxes have been screen printed in 4 different colours including fluorescent red and each one has been foil blocked with a gold match.

As extras, I designed a series of beer mat advertisements and and an app that allows people to upload their drawings and guess others from across the world.

Journal Three _

My 3rd year journal is now finished, ready to hand in tomorrow morning.

I handed in my final unit's work last Friday.

University is unofficially over.

Now I have to grow up,

I now have a proper online portfolio on Behance which can be found here.

Lego Confessional _

I recently did a 2 day group project set by Vaughan Oliver where the aim was to create a magazine that elevated the ordinary and/or celebrated collections. After an amazing stroke of fate where Sally (the new girl) admitted she too collected Lego despite being 28, we decided to confess about our Lego collections. The magazine consisted of tales from our experiences, photography by Adam Wakefield and a fold out poster.

A collaboration with Jonathan Buschenfeld and Sally Jackson.
